Best Practices Client Gathering
Thanks so much for coming to our Best Practices Client Summit on Monday. This interactive event was all about taking advantage of the community of AngelPoints clients. Kudos to you all for rolling up your sleeves and truly interacting and sharing your tips & tricks. From learning technical tricks like inserting pictures and linking text to best practices on driving participation to your sites to even information on upgrading to EVS '07 -- we tackled a lot of issues and learned a tremendous amount.
My Top Three
- Link pictures in events to make events more exciting and interactive. Simply click on the inserted image and click on the "create link" icon in the content editor tool bar and enter in a specific web address.
- Drive employees to your site by using popular topics/events. Roger mentioned that he created a targeted email in the "promote email" functionality to promote to all Cal Bears fans (perhaps users that selected Sports & Rec as a cause in their profile). Similarly, you could use events happening around the nation/world that are getting attention. I just created a targeted email to all users that selected "Disaster Response" as a cause to get them involved in the Southern CA wild fires.
- Update the Welcome page frequently. Include links to the most sought after information. One way to do this is to create an about page, copy the link of the about page and insert that link on the Welcome page in the content area of the Site Design section.
I'd love to hear what everyone else learned and use this space as a way to continue teh great discussions we had at our Monday Client Best Practices event. We will also be posting pictures and video of the event here shortly.
From the AAA website presentation as well as each company that showed their sites, it was clear that putting pictures in events and in as many places as humanly possible can really help humanize a site. I'm excited to see pictures of October 22 via this online forum...check it out!
Wanted to point your attention to the November edition of AngelPointers, which has a specific tip on how to insert event pictures.
Did you Know....
Did you Know?
... that you can add volunteer pics to your event?
In EVS '07™:
1. Use Flickr to upload as many event photos as you want!
2. Click on the "Support" tab and click on the "AngelPoints Support Wiki" link
3. Enter the word "photos" in the keyword search
4. Select the solution: Upload photos for my event
Do more! Upload a picture to your profile!
In EVS™ Version 1:
1. Click on the "Manage" tab and select your event on the calendar
2. Under “Measurement and Tracking” click on the “Photos” link
3. Click the "Browse" button to locate the picture on your computer that you wish to upload
4. Select the picture and hit "Update." You can repeat this for as many images as you like.
Tricks of the trade:
* Give the photo a title. This will be displayed when mousing over the picture on the home page.
* To upload a clear image your picture needs to be a perfect square and no more than 500 pixels by 500 pixels.
* Contact your system administrator to have the photo cycle on your home page.

The biggest single take-away for me was hearing how management-mandated volunteer programs didn't fare nearly as well as volunteer programs that thrived from the input of the employees. And, that running a program where you listen to what your employees wants takes time. You have to be patient and practice good listening at the same time as looking at quantitative data as well as qualitative feedback.
Once you get employees starting to contribute, you have to follow up with positive reinforcements to the employees who stepped up and volunteered ideas, or led an event for the first time, or who contributed the most time - and even those who may not have done much but who stretched their boundaries and discovered something new about themselves.
