Life Technologies Tracks Thousands of Volunteer Hours with the Impact Dashboard
Life Technologies is a global biotechnology tools company, dedicated to improving the human condition. With annual sales of more than $3.3 billion, approximately 9,000 employees, and a presence in 160 countries, the administration of global programs is a major challenge for every department in the corporation, including Community Relations.
Kelly Grimes’ two person department was tasked with managing their employee volunteer program, Giving Back at Life, and coordinating local efforts to meet the company-wide goal of 40% employee participation and 25,000 volunteer hours for the year.

Problem
Coordinating volunteering and sustainability manually with dozens of sites globally, including a newly acquired company, was inefficient and overwhelming for a two person team. Employees were still signing up for events using spreadsheets and calendars.

Solution
Adding AngelPoints provided an easy-to-use, central hub for managing volunteerism. In addition, the Impact Dashboard, a graphic representation of hours and impact, was set to show company goals.

Results
With AngelPoints, a small team found the tools they needed to meet their corporate volunteerism and sustainabilty goals. Giving Back at Life has grown exponentially, with the Impact Dashboard showcasing its results. Over 1600 hours were logged in the month after the Impact Dashboard was launched.
Kelly Grimes credits AngelPoints as an instrumental asset in her efforts to increase volunteerism at Life Technologies. She explains that by giving people the right tools – like AngelPoints and the Impact Dashboard –employees can be counted upon to get involved in volunteering and sustainability.

The AngelPoints system is so intuitive that employees can simply log on and dive in with little to no instruction necessary. Now her team can focus on creating templates, posters, and events to promote the greater Giving Back at Life goals, while employees get involved and become passionate volunteers and world-changers on their own.

Employes Log Five Times the Volunteer Hours Using Single Sign On
Land O' Lakes Land O’Lakes, one of America’s premier member-owned cooperatives, delivers an extensive line of supplies, and state-of-the-art production and business services to agricultural producers .
Increasing volunteer participating was a goal for Land O' Lakes starting in 2003, and they selected AngelPoints to help them manage their program.
In 2008, Debbie Prince, Land O' Lakes Community Involvement Coordinator, realized that volunteerism has been healthy within the organization, but it could still be greater. Employees complained that remembering login passwords was a barrier to participation. Team members indicated that while they were interested in using AngelPoints, they had too many passwords to keep track of already on a day-to-day basis and adding one more for AngelPoints felt prohibitive. The obstacle had to be removed to further develop their culture of volunteerism and channel their employees’ activities.

Solution
Land O' Lakes added Single Sign On (SSO), a technical feature that allows clients to click directly from their intranet to the AngelPoints platform without signing in again. Registering for events, and logging volunteer hours took just one click.

Results
There was a dramatic increase in volunteerism after adding SSO. Corporate-sponsored event hours nearly doubled, and more than five times the number of independent hours were recorded compared to the previous year.
